Artichokes with Lemon Garlic

Steamed artichokes infused with garlic and white wine. Serve with lemon juice or balsamic vinegar.
Ingredients
4 artichokes
1 lemon
4 cloves garlic, sliced thinly
White wine (optional)
2 inches water
Instructions
1. Trim stems from artichokes and remove stray leaves around bottom.
2. Cut about 1-2 inches off the tops.
3. Using kitchen shears, cut prickly tops off remaining outer leaves.
4. Rinse well and rub cut parts with lemon juice.
5. Loosen inner leaves and stick 4-5 garlic slices randomly between the leaves of each artichoke.
6. Place stems down in pot, squeeze lemon over tops.
7. Pour white wine over tops if desired. Add about 2 inches of liquid total.
8. Cover and bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer 1-2 hours.
9. Done when outer leaves pull off easily. Serve with lemon juice or balsamic vinegar.
