Macrobiotic Cracker Jacks

A healthier version of the American classic using barley malt and rice syrup.

Ingredients

1/4 cup popcorn kernels Sea salt 1/2 cup barley malt 1/2 cup rice syrup

Instructions

1. Pop popcorn without oil: Heat saucepan over medium-low. Add 4 kernels, cover lightly. When they pop, add all kernels. Cover and cook until popping stops. 2. Pour popcorn into large bowl. 3. Heat barley malt and rice syrup in saucepan, bring to boil. 4. Reduce heat and simmer 2 minutes. 5. Pour almost all hot sweetener over popcorn, mix well to coat. 6. Spread in nonstick pan. 7. Brush any missed pieces with remaining sweetener. 8. Bake at 375°F until sweetener begins to darken (watch carefully!). 9. Remove and let cool completely. 10. Don't forget to include a toy surprise!
