A flavorful, low-fat sauce recipe.
Ingredients
Tomato Sauce adapted from The Fannie Farmer Cookbook
6 oz can tomato paste
28 oz can tomatoes
1 carrot, grated
1 onion, chopped till pieces are pea-sized
2 cloves garlic, minced
pepper and salt to taste
1 tbsp. dried basil
6 oz can tomato paste
28 oz can tomatoes
1 carrot, grated
1 onion, chopped till pieces are pea-sized
2 cloves garlic, minced
pepper and salt to taste
1 tbsp. dried basil
Instructions
Cook the onion in a couple of tablespoons of water until it starts to become
transparent, stirring frequently. (I use a teflon pan, btw). Add the
minced garlic and cook for about two minutes. Then dump in the tomato
paste, tomatoes, carrot, pepper, and dried basil. Simmer for 30-45 minutes.
You might also like to add red pepper flakes when you add the other spices.
Cook it until it's the thickness you like--thicker is better than thinner
for pizza, of course.
